Br. Urban League (G football)

The Brother Urban league was established in Clara in 1994 and is a GAA football league that takes place every summer. The League has grown from strength to strength during its 20 years of existence. Each year, the beginning and end of the league is marked by a parade of the players through the town to the tune of local bands.

The league was named after Rev. Brother Urban Boyle, who was appointed as principal of Clara boy’s school in 1955. Under the guidance of brother Urban the boys celebrated many years of hurling & football success. During his time in Clara Brother Urban founded a school football league, oversaw the building of a new boys school & football pitch and also the formation of a secondary school in the town.
